I'm currently watching for the first time John Ford's The Searchers. Some interesting facts about this 1956 western:
1. It currently has an 8.0 rating on imdb.
2. It's only noteworthy award was a nomination from the DGA for Best Director.
3. The AFI voted it the Greatest Western of all Time.
4. It was ranked #96 on the AFI's Original Top 100 American Films list and jumped to #12 on the 2007 updated list. (1)
5. It influenced many films, including Lawrence of Arabia, Sholay and Star Wars Episodes II and IV.
I'm only half way through the film, looking forward to the rest.
